I don't agree with ditching the cutscenes all together... I love cutscenes, that's one of the things I really love about GW. BUT the voice acting in factions was so horrible that omg I turned off all sound and just read it.
I loved the voice acting in Prophecies... Yeah there was a bit of cheesieness here and there but overall it wasn't that bad. Factions.... Just... oye, the voice acting team was just so horrible and the cutscenes did NOTHING for the game, as it all just seemed to repeat itself and when it didn't repeat, it made such a far jump from the previous one and story line that I was left going "Whaaa?!?!"
Keep the cut scenes and get the voice actors to take talent lessons, because they generally suck or are not made for the roles you put them in. OR at the very least make a general cut scene skip so that I don't have to bleed or cringe everytime one of my newb guildies wishes to see it. (I find it mean to make them skip something they paid $50 for ya know?)

I agree with Eviance
I like the cutscences, thts not a common thing u often see in common MMORPGs.I also like the fact tht we actually get to see ourselves in those scences...It somehow connects us more to the story instead of just jumping straight into a new enviroment without knowing what happened.....
Although the voice acting might need some improvements,i'm fine with the way it is now, what really matters is the story...well maybe except for Glint and Kuunavang...why would they have OLD granny voices for dragons?to show tht they are old/ancient???!! They sounded a little unnatural.....Just really creeps me out......
My suggestion is tht maybe, just MAYBE find someone with a voice tht suited tht role......and just have them talk naturally.....

Allow me to educate WHY bad dialogs can make the voice actor sound bad:
First of ALL, They can't set the bar higher as Voice Actors are concerned because they ALREADY have some of the best out there.
Mind you, some if not all of the people you loved from Prophecies IS on that list.

Just about EVERYONE on that list has had TONS of jobs elsewhere both past and present, ranging from Pixar's Cars to Cartoon Network's hit shows and many others. Set the bar any higher, and you might as well ask for Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Afleck. Then they can charge $85 instead of 50$ for the game to cover actors fees.
Second of all, If the script that they give them was CRAP THEN THE VOICE ACTORS CANNOT MAKE IT SOUND ANY MORE THAN WHAT IT WAS. CRAP.
Stop blaming the actors for bad production.

It's still the voice actors fault. Evennia sounds so bad I want to stab her in the face, but the generic male party leader voice is great.
Wording might also be an issue, but it's mostly the voice and tones that is a problem.

I will say it again and again and again. The Voice Actors are only ACTORS.
I blame the director and the writer.
They have the final say. They can ask for multiple takes. They can fire the voice actor.
In the end, it also comes down to personal taste.
You like the lead hero/Justiciar Hablion AKA Steven Blum. I dont. I hate his voice. He's overused, he's typecasted, hes pigeonholed. He's everywhere. EVERYWHERE. Plus he cant even act. All his characters sound exactly the same. He's Spike and he will always be Spike. He will never shake it off because he never changes his voice.
You wanna know a good male voice actor? Phil Lamar.

Doesn't that just mean that the voice actors are fine, it's just the players that disagree to varying degrees?

In one sense, thats true. But I doubt thats a practical conclusion...find me someone who actually likes Danika's voice...and that puts a hole in that theory. lol
Well theres degrees as to quality of voice work in a piece. In any performance we have to look at alot of things:
Casting: Who chose that voice for that character and why? Does it fit?
Writing: What are the words they are saying? Is the story or their lines understandable and natural, or awkward and unnatural?
Performance: So we have the voice, we have the dialogue, performance is HOW these two come together and is spoken by the actor.
Directing: The actor has performed, but is it right? does it need less emphasis? more? too flat? should he do it over? Directing is quality control. Without it, the actor is lost.
So imo, the grade for GWF is this:
Casting: C - Some good choices, some bad. Mostly bad
Writing: D - The dialogue is just godawful...
Performance: None - Its hard for me to grade something i cant stand listening to...
Directing: F - x_x
Danika - poor casting, ok dialogue, AWFUL performance.

Only real problem I have is the overuse of the standard emotes. The writers seemed to go out of their way to accommodate for gestures they put in to make the cutscenes look more cinematic & less like our characters standing around interacting.
I'd prefer to have characters stand around having succinct dialogue rather than characters jabbering about nothing in particular while flailing their arms around trying to appear more realistic.

yes... it's annoying how few character emotes there is.
Characters in cut scenes, can only like bow and other simple things, and every emote they do will in some strange way make whatever weapon and shield they have in their hand dissapear until the emote is gone.
its cool that they can at least walk in some cut scenes. players in the game should be able to walk too.
maybe Anet should make it so, that characters like in WoW and Oblivion can carry their weapons on their backs while talking or in town. ?

Thank You so much.
Someone who ACTUALLY knows how things happen.
Ultimate QFT.
Voice Actors can only take it so far if they have no direction.
Just admit it folks, the production was terrible.

Ok i think many of you are going over the line, whether left or right doesnt matter.
Some cutscenes are OK. However, a lot of dialogs.. are AAAAAAAAH AAAAAAAAAAH i LOWER the sound volume on my speakers, i just CANNOT listen to it nor read it. It's not even voice acting as much as the script itself.
For those of you who like Tolkien conversations or... Chronicles of Amber or.. Lord of Light... or i dunno, many many of em... this is ... horrible. Now dont get me wrong, im not expecting Tolkien-like story writers. It is really difficult to achieve that level. But geez for the love of all adults, make the dialogs less childish! When i read dialogs i want to feel the power, the strenght of my character, i want to feel the zeal which will make me continue playing. Right now dialogs are.. meh. Voice acting is bad, get a male voice actor with a deep voice
Let's put it this way: of ALL GW sounds, not just voice acting, i dont remember ANY. I havent got impression of any. GW has a lot of voice in it, but all that voice is useless. I'd rather have as little voice as in Diablo, with no cutscenes, but make that voice as great. I have played Diablo long long time ago, but i still remember how cool it was to hear "I sense a soul in search of answer" or "Aaaaah! Fresh meat!" "My brothers have not died in vain" (or whatever did the guy say heh). Also, just to note it, im not expecting GW to have the best from all games, so if voice impression isnt as good as let's say in Diablo, at least try to make itl ike that instead of going on with failed concept.
Btw sounds in the game need.. to be implemented. This game has no sounds so to speak. Check Diablo1 for sounds of everything, from chest opening, to killing stuff. Killing stuff in GW is boring because there's no sound of dying, really.

Clipscenes are fine.
My Rangs: No Moving/attacking minions, No Glitches (Atleast think of what could glitch it and then play the game a few times through. See what happens that shouldnt happen, For the sunjiang district mission. even fi teh warrior boss doesnt spawn, Itll appear at the end) and Please make the mouths move and More.. MUSIC IN THE SCENE!

Don't they have a volume slider for cutscene volume only now? Makes it even easier for the voice haters.

tbh: the cutscenes are not that bad as many want them to be in this thread. i must admit: they are not the best and i often just thought: wth! this voices and dialogs really, really hurt my ears and my brain but ok... who cares!
there are indeed some very cool scenes in there especially in the prophecies campaign (remembering the dwarfs after thunderhead :P ).
A-Net and NCSoft could really improve the cutscenes with lower voices that dont sound like spoken by a 12 year old tiny little boy. remembering the really evil lich in GWP and his voice *shiver* this is simply not fitting...
but in the end
/(un)sign just change the voices and im fine

I read an interview with...Jeff Strain, I think, where the interviewer commented about how bad the cutscenes were. Jeff admitted that they weren't cutting edge, but Anet would rather spend money and resources on the game rather than on elaborate cutscenes.
That said, I still wouldn't want them removed. I feel that they do move the story along. Yeah, when I've done the same mission for the 5th time, I don't want to see it. But when I'm doing the first time I do. Most of the time it's important to the story.

Would be neat to see one "Grand" cutscene when you first make your Nightfall character.
